National Nutrition Day in Spain: Tips for healthy eating

National Nutrition Day is a special date on the Spanish calendar that takes place every May 28 . This celebration exists thanks to the Spanish Federation of Nutrition, Food and Dietetics Societies that together with the Spanish Agency for Consumption, Food Safety and Nutrition promoted the creation of this day in 2005; year since National Nutrition Day is commemorated.

This date aims to raise awareness among all Spaniards about the role of a healthy and balanced diet and nutrition in maintaining health and increasing the quality of life. Therefore, to put our grain of sand, we want to share some tips and recommendations so that together with your family they have a healthy diet.

National Nutrition Day: Tips for Eating Healthy

  • Eat breakfast every day; It has to be a complete breakfast since it is the most important meal of the day.
  • Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
  • Eat legumes at least 2-3 times a week.
  • Reduce your intake of red meat, cold cuts and ultra-processed food.
  • Increase your consumption of whole grains, blue and white fish, milk, yogurt, and low-fat cheeses.
  • Drink a lot of water and if possible accompany your meals with this drink.
  • Cut down on sugary foods and beverages such as soft drinks, packets, fast food, and desserts.
  • Eat 5 meals a day.
  • Do exercise every day; at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity.
