10 Spanish cities you can't miss

10 Spanish cities you can't miss

On the occasion of World Tourism Day ( September 27 ), we dedicate this post to highlighting the wealth of tourism in Spain . This richness comes from the attractions, the welcome and the experiences that the Iberian country offers to those who visit it at any time of the year.

The most frequent question that a national or foreign tourist asks is precisely where to go and what to do among so many attractive options . The answer depends on several aspects to consider, especially the budget , the season or season and circumstantial factors such as transport costs, but we leave you here ten Spanish cities that are great destinations for when you have the opportunity to venture into them. The order is (almost) random.

Seville

City that will not be missing from any list of this type and will most likely be the first. Such is the merit that Seville has earned thanks to its monuments, its climate, its fragrances and its gastronomy. Ideal for travelers who delight in architectural splendor.

Not to be missed: visit the neighborhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, and the Plaza de España.

Segovia

A city crowned by the beauty of its ancient Roman aqueduct, its fortress and its historic quarter. You could get to know it in a single day, but touring it at night offers you several attractions. And better yet, quite close to Madrid.

Unmissable: Go to the Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos and try the roast suckling pig.

Toledo

Another beautiful city near Madrid. Capital of the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha and of the country in the 16th century, three religions coexisted in Toledo: Muslims, Jews and Christians. To visit it is to travel back to medieval times and see a cultural collage.

Unmissable: Contemplate the city from the viewpoint of the Valley and taste the typical dishes.

Grenade

Granada is a city that attracts visitors from all over the world and manages to captivate young people with its university atmosphere. In the memories of travelers there is always a special place for the majestic Alhambra and the gleaming Sierra Nevada, which crown the city, keeping the Arab legacy and its authenticity alive.

Unmissable: Go out for tapas and experience a sunset from the Alhambra.

Cordova

the caliph. Córdoba is another of the Spanish scenarios where three of the world's main religions converged with all their worldview and capacity to transform the environment. If you can visit it in May, you will come across the Patios Cordobeses Festival, a tradition that dates back to 1921 and is ideal for taking as many photos as you can.

Unmissable: The Mosque of Córdoba.

Saint Sebastian

If the beach and that air of French architecture attract your attention, you will enjoy visiting San Sebastián (or Donostia , in Basque). Bathed by the Bay of Biscay, this city boasts a remarkable elegance. It was chosen by many monarchs to spend the summer, a time when you can enjoy its time-resistant benefits, with the added value of a language that you will not find anywhere else on the planet (outside the Basque-speaking area).

Not to be missed : Enjoy the options that Playa de la Concha offers you while tasting delicious pintxos.

Pamplona

Another northern city. Pamplona is world famous for its Sanfermines in July every year; however, it has more to offer and may surprise you. It is surrounded by ancient walls and even endowed with a Renaissance defensive citadel. Its historic center offers picturesque buildings, small squares and beautiful churches, although you can also explore a little more and find museums, gardens and even a Japanese park (Yamaguchi).

Unmissable: Route of the Encierros and tasting of pintxos.

Cadiz

A whitish landscape (because of the paint on its buildings) and the sea as a crucial part of life in the city. Where? In Cadiz. This city has a particular charm that you should not miss if you are attracted to the Andalusian region. In addition, its history, like that of Seville, is closely linked to the period of splendor of the Spanish Empire.

Unmissable: Go up to the Torre de Tavira and taste a lot of typical gastronomy.

Barcelona

This requires little explanation. Who hasn't heard of Barcelona? Who hasn't wanted to get to know it at least once? Well, including this destination in your tourism plan is surely a good decision. In Barcelona you can delight yourself with curious modernist buildings, carry out more than enough cultural activities, get lost in popular neighborhoods and learn the Catalan language.

Unmissable: Visit Park Guell, Barceloneta and Passeig de Gràcia.

Madrid

Last but not least, the capital of the country. Madrid is a mandatory destination for thousands of travelers from Latin America. Despite being the capital (and being young at that), this city offers many opportunities for leisure, as well as very varied environments. Just around the corner there will always be a place or an experience that you can contemplate or take advantage of. Of course, you will need several days to get the most out of it.

Not to be missed: Walk along Gran Vía and visit El Retiro Park and the Temple of Debod.

To close…

It would be unreasonable to deny that Spain is a beautiful country with an almost unlimited offer for tourists. This list is by no means definitive but an attempt to highlight memorable landmarks. In this blog we have already suggested the most beautiful Spanish towns to visit . Choose the destinations that best suit your budget, interests and possible itineraries. If you don't visit several cities or towns, in just one you can find a lot by delving into the lifestyle of the locals and asking them for their recommendations. Spain is very well prepared for tourism despite the Covid-19 pandemic .
